Getting to the Heart of Healthcare Numbers
In July of 2022, my co-founder and I stumbled upon something that caught our attention: the Transparency in Coverage requirements were going into effect and would force health insurance companies to publicly release all of their negotiated rates. For the longest time, these numbers were kept in the shadows, hidden away from the very providers they concerned. Out of curiosity, we dove into the data to answer a seemingly basic question: Are payors reimbursing a fair and consistent amount of money for services across different provider groups?
What we found wasn’t what we expected. There were (and still are) massive differences in what providers were being paid for identical services—sometimes by over 10,000%. These weren’t just minor discrepancies; they left us questioning the fairness of healthcare reimbursements entirely.
We realized this wasn’t just a number-crunching exercise anymore. It was about bringing transparency to a system that felt murky at best. We wanted to help providers see and understand these rates, and to equip them with the knowledge they should have regarding their industry and how they’re being paid.
With that goal in mind, we’ve spent the last year refining this data into a usable format. And as of August 2023, we’re ready to share it with the world. Visifee is here to offer clarity in an industry that seems more confusing than ever before. We believe that by making this data accessible and understandable, we can help providers get reimbursed what they deserve.

Hi, I’m Zack, co-founder and CEO of Visifee. My journey in this field began as a Software Engineer at Athenahealth, where I developed a system managing employee access to patient data for HIPAA compliance and later worked on pharmacy ordering and administration workflows. Later, I moved to a chemical company undergoing a digital transition, where I established a User Experience & Design (UXD) department from the ground up.
When the Transparency in Coverage ruling from CMS forced Health Insurance Companies to release their negotiated rates, I saw an opportunity to bring a much-needed dose of transparency to the healthcare industry. That’s why I started Visifee. My goal is to make sure providers are being paid fairly for their hard work and patients aren’t footing the bill to make it happen.
When I’m not working, you’ll find me outdoors, skiing, rock climbing, or dirt-biking around the Salt Lake City area in Utah. And if I’m indoors, I’m probably playing video games or hanging out with my wife, my dog and two cats.
